The camera motion for this shot was tracked in SynthEyes to create an initial 3d scene as a base. The creature head was then matched to the actor by hand. A clean plate was created by combining different camera views from the live action footage, and projecting them onto 3D geometry. The actor’s head was rotoscoped out by hand, and the morph between live action and CG was done as a 2D spline warping effect in Nuke. An HDRI sphere image was shot on location and used to light the scene and give accurate reflections.
